Following his sophomore single following the well-received debut release, “Hallelujah
Dr. John Mo shares the story behind the song:
“I was coming from the usual choir rehearsals one night when my car had a fault and stopped on the highway. I wound up and was making calls to get help for the situation. Suddenly, armed men came around, shattered my car window and forcefully gained access to me. They took away my phone and the lots I had with me. They left me gripped with fear and I realized how powerless and how close I was to being killed by armed men who have no regard for lives. In pain, I pondered on how I was robbed in a twinkle of an eye and left broken despite all I believe I could do.
“Just then, the Spirit said to me, “John, you can’t fight the battles alone. I am your defense and the God of vengeance – I keep, and I’ve kept you!”. Instantly, I submitted to God saying “Lord, I’m so sorry to trust in my strength. Henceforth, please fight my battles for me so I’d always hold my peace (Exodus 14:14).” On my way to another choir rehearsal the next day, the lyrics of “Fight These Battles” began to drop in my spirit in bits like droplets of rain. As I meditated on His word afterwards, and thinking of the battles of my life, the writing of the song was complete.
“Today, I have peace within me, knowing that the Almighty God fights my battles. Truly, If we turn all our battles to God in prayers, in praise and trust in him, we’ll surely be victorious. The God of vengeance always wins the war; He won’t start losing with yours. May this song bring you to that level of understanding and provoke your testimonies in Jesus name, Amen.”

While the world continues it’s fight to survive and overcome the unseen enemy during the global pandemic and the heightened chaos that the world is facing, Africans especially Nigerians do what they have always done in such times, and that is to be hopeful and pray. “God Dey” is a slang Nigerians use to say “God is in control” when faced with a situation they cannot handle with their own strength. In fact, one of the most popular Nigerian phrases says “God Na U” and it refers to “God, I look unto you” or “God You Did it”, and also places trust in God’s strength to save.
